Aquascutum is one of my favourite trench coat brands. It’s an iconic British label, founded in 1851 by John Emary. The name comes from the Latin words aqua (water) and scutum (shield), reflecting Emary’s pioneering development of waterproof wool fibres. You can learn more about the history of trench coat innovation—including brands like Aquascutum— in a video we made on Instagram.

The Waterfall City
The Waterfall City is a visual composition combining two illustrations: one of a large, abstract cityscape, and the other a photograph of a waterfall taken at Milford Sound in New Zealand. Together, these two images create a layered narrative.

One possible interpretation is the contrast—and balance—between nature and urban life: the fast-paced, noisy energy of the city versus the calm, healing sound of flowing water. Another interpretation sees the two scenes in direct connection: a vast city slowly overtaken by water, where rainy days fuel an endless cascade, flooding the urban landscape. If you look closely, you’ll notice the city is already submerged.

Both images tie back to the essence of Aquascutum—a coat designed to shield its wearer from the rain. A symbol of protection and resilience, especially for someone navigating city life.
